Operation Christmas Child

This is an arm of the much larger world wide Christian relief organisation called Samaritan’s Purse which is wholly aimed at bringing Christ to children in poor countries, not only through the generosity of a gift filled shoebox at Christmas, (hence the name “Christmas boxes”) but also offering them the opportunity to hear of God’s love through a program called “The Greatest Journey”.

Southside has been filling boxes for several years now with each member participating in whatever way they are able. Many knit teddy bears & beanies, sew pencil cases or crochet around washers all year in preparation. Many, (often with the help of grandchildren) fill complete boxes while others donate items for inclusion like soap, toothbrushes, clothing and toys and still others donate money to help pay for the transportation. All of us pray. In mid October the boxes are returned to church where they are blessed before being sent to Sydney where they are checked and then allocated and delivered by volunteers to various regions in Asia and the Pacific.
